Don Diego de la Vega, po długim pobycie w Hiszpanii wraca do rodzinnej Kalifornii, będącej wówczas pod panowaniem hiszpańskim. Widząc niesprawiedliwość jaka spotyka mieszkańców jego stron rodzinnych ze strony skorumpowanych urzędników i zarządców prowincji, podejmuje samotną walkę z niesprawiedliwością i krzywdą. Ale aby walka ta była skuteczna musi pozostać nierozpoznany. Dlatego też walcząc, ukrywa się pod maską Zorro. Ten serial telewizyjny cieszył się dużą popularnością, także na ekranach polskich telewizorów.
